Background
After years of periodic interaction with Florida's government and legislature by volunteers from various statewide non-profit media and entertainment industry associations, labor organizations, production/post production companies and vendors, with varying degrees of success, a consensus began to emerge that full time representation in Tallahassee was essential.
Reasons included keeping our industries immediately abreast of changes and emerging legislative initiatives, and providing a constant, visible presence and effective voice with the various legislators and offices affecting the successful enactment of legislation supporting our industries. Further, it became clear that the Governor's Office of Film & Entertainment desired industry's support in its effort to initiate and pass incentive legislation benefiting the industries it serves.
The Florida Alliance of Media and Entertainment (FAME) was organized as a non-profit entity specifically to provide that full time representation in Tallahassee through the engagement of a government relations firm. Representatives of the founding organizations researched various law firms and lobbying organizations with strong reputations for effectively representing their constituents, solicited and reviewed proposals, and traveled to Tallahassee for a series of interviews with the finalist organizations. By a vote between the Executive Board members, David Caserta Government Relations was selected, and had represented FAME over the two legislative sessions since that decision.
